A Melbourne concrete spraying company has been fined $30,000 after a workers’ hand was partially amputated two years ago. The accident occurred in April 2022 when a TP Structures employee was setting up a truck-mounted pump to complete concreting works at a construction site in Malvern. The worker reached into the pump to clear some debris when his right hand became trapped in the machinery and was partially amputated, WorkSafe said.
It was also found the company could have “reasonably” eliminated or reduced any health and safety risks by conducting daily checks of the pump before anyone operated the machine. TP Structures was fined $30,000 and ordered to pay $5673 in costs. WorkSafe executive director of health and safety Sam Jenkin said having safe systems and checks in place when operating machinery was “critical”.
