The Special Investigative Unit says whistleblower Babita Deokaran’s evidence into tender fraud at Tembisa Hospital has helped them unravel syndicates.
This was some of the information that was shared at a 3-year commemoration of her death in Mondeor on Friday evening. Deokaran was the former Chief Director for Financial Accounting at the Gauteng Department of Health. She was shot dead outside her home in the south of Johannesburg.“Deokaran’s evidence assisted in uncovering various syndicates and their modus operandi in syphoning money from the hospital.”
Mothibi says their investigation is ongoing and they could widen their net to other Gauteng hospitals. “If it wasn’t for Babita Deokaran, we wouldn’t be able to be here to tell you the investigation we have made. Over and above Tembisa Hospital was chief. More than 200 purchase orders are suspicious. All of these transactions are worth more than R2.2 billion,” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
