Man United brought the transfer window to a close with the signing of Manuel Ugarte, capping off a successful summer for Ineos.

It started with Alvaro Fernandez joining Benfica and it ended with Jadon Sancho sealing an 11th-hour loan move to Chelsea.

After several years of overspending on players and failing to move others on at the right time, Ineos knew they had to make their mark this summer to win over any doubters. United took their time to get going, not sealing their first signing of the summer until the window was exactly one month old, but they soon planted their flag in the sand once Dan Ashworth was added to Ineos' inner circle.

Ugarte, who was United's chief midfield target throughout the window, has strengthened the midfield, adding some much-needed steel and grit. Joshua Zirkzee, the first signing of the Ineos era, has added some competition for Rasmus Hojlund at the top end of the pitch. Casemiro, as brilliant as he was in his first season at Old Trafford, was signed in August 2022 for a package worth £70m. He had already celebrated his 30th birthday and was handed a four-year deal.

Of course, it is wrong to suggest Ineos have limited spending this summer having invested more than £200m in new signings, but they have been sensible in their approach. They spent long hours at the negotiating table, haggling to get deals done for prices they felt were fair and reflective of the player they wanted to add to Ten Hag's squad.
