The 18 who were shot and killed at Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki over the past weekend will be buried on the 12th and 13th of this month. The families have however rejected government’s offer for a mass funeral.
“We still don’t believe that this has happened to our neighbours. It’s very painful, we don’t even know what to do. Our only hope now is for the rule of law to prevail so that we can be at peace after the perpetrators who did this horrific act have been found,” says resident Mxolisi Tantsi. “This is very painful. We are emotionally and psychologically hurt. I don’t even know what to say. I wish the government can do something to tighten security here. We are not happy at all. Things are very bad in this village,” says concerned resident Noncedile George.
“The Matu family funeral will be on the 12th. The funeral for the other families at Dimfi and Malangeni will be on the 12th as well while the funeral for the Ndleleni family here at Ngobozana village will be on the 13th. We will no longer have the mass funeral because families have requested that they bury their loved ones on their preferred dates.
