“There were three people on board including the pilot. The pilot and one passenger escaped and worked heroically with the assistance of those on the scene to rescue the trapped passenger,” Crooks said in a statement. “Search and Rescue was on hand within an hour of the accident with a helicopter, and the Coast Guard responded with a rescue boat. Tragically they were unable to save one passenger, and he drowned.”“At this point we don’t know what caused the accident and it will of course be the subject of an investigation by the RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board,” Crooks added.

“We do know that the weather was not a factor and there was no indication of mechanical failure.
