Government

Various political parties joined the pro-Palestine protest in Polokwane.

demonstrators in Polokwane, Limpopo, are calling for government to impose sanctions and isolate Israel over the mass killing of Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

The ongoing war between Hamas and Israel has claimed the lives of over 40 000 people, including children. The conflict has been described by many activists in South Africa as genocide against the Palestinians. The march was also against against Israeli’s increasing aggression against neighbouring states, including Lebanon, Syria and Iran. Polokwane-Palestine Organisation representative, Aslam Bava, says they want the government to act.

“The United Nations general assembly has overwhelmingly voted that sanctions should be imposed on Israel, we appreciate what the South African government has done in taking the matter to the ICJ that has been a very positive step. We are now asking South Africa to take it to the next step, impose sanctions.”

The protestors have called on the government to support the return of land and property to the Palestine with compensation. They also want the international community to declare Zionism an illegal ideology. No one will be prosecuted in relation to Phala Phala case: NPA Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
