The six children died after consuming snacks allegedly bought from a foreign-owned spaza shop.

His mother, who was part of the mourners attending the funeral service of the five other children at Naledi community hall in Soweto, was called to rush to the health facility, where the news of her son’s passing were broken.

Children failed to contain themselves and burst into tears. Chairperson of Divine Intervention in Naledi, Gordon Rampolokeng, announced the passing during the mass funeral service of four of the children in Naledi.Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, says law enforcement agencies will leave no stone unturned, until they find the root cause of the poison that allegedly led to the deaths of the children.

“There are those that have been assigned this difficult task of pointing the cause of this death. They will execute their mandate with the necessary speed. Not to be narrow on their own investigations. Their investigations should go beyond the borders of Naledi. These products were produced somewhere. We also have to find the producers of these products.”

The incident led the community of Soweto to go on rampage to close spaza shops owned by foreign nationals. Faith Based Organisations Representative, Pastor Siyabong Mphikwa explains: “This is a repetition of what happened last year. As a faith based organisation we are committing ourselves that enough is enough. Let there be light in Naledi. No more burying young innocent souls in this community. We are saying enough is enough as pastors.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
