Four suspects arrested for the September massacre in Lusikisiki, in which 18 people were murdered, will appear in court on Friday. National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says one suspect is still on the run.
Masemola and Police Minister Senzo Mchunu updated the media on the investigation, saying there is a possibility of linking more suspects to the case. The police say the net is being cast wide in this investigation. “We also have one of the suspects that is still on the run. We were able to retrieve or confiscate his vehicle and that is how far we are with the investigation. So, in total, people currently arrested is five, and of course, one is still on the run and the investigation we cast it wide and we are still looking at the possibility of linking other people to this specific case,” says General Fannie Masemola, National Police Commissioner.
“Sometimes we get information, and police get information, but there is always a need to translate that into concrete evidence. So far, we are just listening to getting whatever it is. There is a story like that, but up until it’s confirmed and becomes a fact, we will then be able to say so, once that has happened. But in case it happens I am saying that it’s important that we note this and there is something we are doing about it,” he says.
