The African National Congress has introduced a new membership system that will verify the credentials of those wanting to join the party. Prospective members will have to go through stringent measures as well as write motivational letters as to why they want to be a member.
In a bid to rid the ANC of bad apples as well as mitigate instances where ANC branches are used for self-serving interests as opposed to addressing issues that communities face, the ANC has introduced a five-module foundation course, that all members, from the NEC to the ordinary branch members, need to complete.
Former ANC Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has suggested that the party use the foundation course as an opportunity to re-sign its 600 000 members.
