The vice-president of communications for the Winnipeg Jets says the team is investigating after pictures were posted to Twitter last week of a South African security team bearing the same logo as the hockey club on its uniforms.
Jeremy Shields posted the pictures on Twitter on May 27, with the caption “Hey #NHL Jets did you know your logo is being used by a South African security company? Thought you might want to know.”Thought you may want to know. — Jeremy 'scootR' #ForValour May 28, 2019According to the post, the pictures were passed to Shields by a friend, whom he wrote is a former Winnipegger currently travelling in Africa. The first photo is a close-up of the sleeve featuring the Jets logo and, if that wasn’t blatant enough, the words “Jet Enterprises” framing the top. Twitter users responding to the post immediately zoned in on the flagrancy with which the logo was copied.— Jeremy 'scootR' #ForValour May 28, 2019Wow, that I total rip-off of the Jets logo. They even have the the audacity to put “jets” on their crest. The only thing missing is “.Winnipeg”!!! pic.twitter.
— Daniel Robert May 28, 2019Rob Wozny, vice president of communications and community engagement, said that the the team has passed the tweet to counsel for review. “We’re looking into it, along with the other situations where our intellectual property is used that gets shared or forwarded to us throughout the year, ” he wrote in an email.
