In 1990, Steven opened his first Poundland store in Burton upon Trent with a £50,000 loan from his father. The business quickly grew despite initial skepticism from landlords and shopping centers.

By 1995, Poundland had established a head office and distribution center in Wolverhampton. The family’s success with Poundland led to the purchase of Ludstone Hall in 1997 for £2.5 million.
