A suspect died after a fight at a flea market escalated into a road rage incident involving a car ramming another vehicle, leading to a rollover crash. (SBG San Antonio)SAN ANTONIO – More people moving to San Antonio means more cars on the road. But are road rage-related crashes increasing?According to the Texas Department of Transportation, there have been three road rage crashes in our area so far this month.
The latest involved two groups of people who argued at a flea market, and the confrontation continued onto Loop 410, culminating in a 46-year-old man ramming another car. TxDOT reports 194 road rage-related crashes in 2024, compared to 200 in both 2023 and 2022 in Bexar County. We contacted the San Antonio Police Department to inquire about the number of road rage incidents officers have responded to this year. A spokesperson explained that the department requires time to locate these cases as they are not currently tracked. Depending on the circumstances of the road rage incident, the case may be classified as aggravated assault, deadly conduct, or even murder. The spokesperson provided a statement: 'The San Antonio Police Department takes road rage incidents seriously. We encourage people to call 911 if a driver is displaying aggressive or violent behavior on the road.' In April, the nonprofit organization ‘The Trace’ reported that San Antonio, tied with Memphis, experienced the second-highest surge in road rage shootings over the past decade, according to data from the 'Gun Violence Archive'. This raises the question: Should the San Antonio Police Department track road rage incidents
