Trafford council has renewed its operating agreement with Trafford Leisure CIC, a not-for-profit provider, which has overseen significant investment in the borough's leisure centres. This includes a £7.1m refurbishment of Urmston Leisure Centre and plans for new centres in Stretford, Sale, Partington, and Altrincham at a cost of £74.65m. Leading councillors in Trafford have hailed the renewal of its new operating agreement with a not-for-profit provider which has overseen a multi-million pound investment into the borough’s leisure centres. The council’s executive have approved the new contract with Trafford Leisure CIC, which manages the authority’s leisure centres.

This was boosted by a successful Levelling Up Fund bid for Partington and additional Sport England funding for Altrincham. In a report, the council’s deputy leader and executive member for leisure and arts Coun Catherine Hynes said the new operating agreement between the council and Trafford leisure had been developed with a ‘clear focus on health and wellbeing outcomes and addressing health inequalities’.

Coun Hynes, who is registered blind, said that she was a user of Urmston Leisure Centre. “As a disabled person I was quite nervous about doing that,” she said. “When I arrived the team were so welcoming and incredibly supportive and helpful.
