'The only reason proponents of this law are rushing it through is that they know it doesn’t pass the pub test': NSW Finance Minister attacks abortion bill | AlexSmithSMH

NSW is the only state or terrritory in Australia that has not decriminalised abortion.Mr Tudehope, who described himself in his inaugural speech to Parliament as "fiercely pro-life", said the bill would deliver an "unjust and illiberal law".Credit:The minister moved to the upper house after giving up his lower house seat at the state election for Treasurer Dominic Perrottet, who is also expected to oppose the bill.

The bill would allow abortion on request for women up to 22 weeks' gestation performed by a registered doctor. Women beyond 22 weeks would need the consent of two doctors. Mr Greenwich said he made it clear in March that he would be introducing the bill within the first few months of the new parliament so it should not have been a surprise to anyone.

Police Minister David Elliott, Mulgoa MP Tanya Davies and Vaucluse MP Gabrielle Upton are among those who were also worried about it being rushed through.

AlexSmithSMH The problem with the pub test is that it is often the pubgoers not taking responsibility for their actions. NSW needs to catch up to the rest of Au.

AlexSmithSMH Moron. He’d prefer it done illegally. By pub test he means allow for some religious, non scientific, emotive scare campaign that gets the whackos stirred up. What happened NSW? How do keep getting left behind? We bag nth QLD but damned if we arent 30 yrs behind the 1st world

AlexSmithSMH Come out and blow your goat horn... parliament has no room for paganism

AlexSmithSMH I’m not in the pub and it passes.

AlexSmithSMH It always amazes me that those most opposed to abortion are those who will never get pregnant.

AlexSmithSMH We can thank Epping for voting this guy in. He has nine children, obviously never heard of contraception either.

AlexSmithSMH Really smart person benshapiro puts abortion into context.

AlexSmithSMH Why is so much of our public discourse still framed by a Christian perspective rather than a humanist one? Ridiculous that a sky fairy story still dictates our lives instead of reason

AlexSmithSMH The Finance Minister says the public will not tolerate decriminalisation of abortion. He is so out of touch, as are some other members of the Government. Once again men telling women they will not have control over their own bodies.

AlexSmithSMH I hate it when a guy who’s never been in a pub in his life invokes ‘the pub test’. If he ever entered such an establishment he’d find a bunch of blokes & Sheilas who’d tell him he doesn’t pass the pub test himself. 😂

AlexSmithSMH This guy is delusional. Half the population of N.S.W. are women and most support decriminalisation of abortion and support safe health care for women. We don't want to see women dying from backyard abortion services ever again.

AlexSmithSMH Y do these ridiculous old men have any say whatsoever? We don't need our morality or religious beliefs policed - this is Australia in the 21st century! Gov need to stick to fixing water 4 farmers/building dams/roads/metro development.

AlexSmithSMH Seriously this is 2019, no wonder nothing gets done our elected officials bitch and moan about absolutely nothing. Just pass the bill and bloody move on. Seriously who really cares about this in society? Like 5% of nsw population who still believe the Earth is the centre of space

AlexSmithSMH he must be a Catholic stooge He should look at Phillipine Mexico n Brazil where they have too many unwanted kids Too many teens n no jobs so they go to gang life D security of society is ruined by warring gangs

AlexSmithSMH only the religious nuts will stand in the way

AlexSmithSMH the pub test?
