The popular Shasha market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital has been shut indefinitely following an attack on some scavengers within the market in the early hours of Friday.

A number of iron scavengers were in the wee hours of the day, attacked by suspected hoodlums at the market, located in Akinyele Local Government Area.

A shop owner within the market who prefers anonymity told journalists that individuals unconnected to the two groups were also injured during the attack. Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi who confirmed the incident, added that normalcy had returned to the area.

“The clash occurred because somebody went to defecate where they packed their wares and this led to the aggrieved mobilizing colleagues to attack their perceived opponents.”
