President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Government of National Unity has agreed to respect the rule of law and protect the independence of institutions, including freedom of the media.Ramaphosa says, “As part of the Government of National Unity, we are in agreement on the importance of entrenching our constitutional democracy and the rule of law.”
He says, “We will continue to exit our every effort to safeguard the independence of our institutions, particularly the judiciary, the freedom of speech the freedom of the media and all of the institutions that support our democracy.” Ramaphosa also thanked members of Parliament for participating in what he described as robust and enriching debate of his address.
He says, “The speeches that were delivered on Friday clearly demonstrate that there is common appreciation amongst members of this august Parliament that a debate of this nature and indeed the work of this Parliament.” “It’s about something far bigger, far more important than just mere politics. It is about the future of our country and its people. It’s about the future of opportunity,” Ramaphosa adds.
