KUALA LUMPUR: Tributes have been pouring in for famed local composer, Datuk Hashim Said, popularly known as S Atan, who died on Saturday at age 75, describing him as a musical genius who had profoundly influenced the local music industry.
"It’s the loss of someone so meaningful to the local music industry,” he told Bernama when met at S Atan’s residence in Taman Bukit Kajang here on Saturday , adding that he had several songs produced by S Atan, including three popular Hari Raya songs.Veteran singer Datuk DJ Dave said just last month, he had the chance to visit the late S. Atan at his home while he was unwell, which he describes as a memory that is now incredibly meaningful to him.
"This is a tremendous loss for the music world in Malaysia. His talent, passion, and dedication have left an indelible mark on our industry. He also worked tirelessly in composing Setia Perpaduan, my unity-themed song released last year—a testament to his unwavering commitment to bringing people together through music.
Meanwhile, S Atan’s sister, lyricist Fatah Hasan said that she and her brother were working on a project to produce several songs for a local female artist.
