Blood donation services in London are appealing to the public to donate blood after a typical decrease in donations during the festive season. The NHS Blood and Transplant service explained that cold weather, holiday illnesses, and busy schedules often result in fewer blood donations during December, leading to lower blood supplies. The Ro blood type, prevalent in people of Black heritage, is particularly in demand as it can treat individuals with sickle cell disease. The service emphasized the need for O-negative blood, often used in emergencies, and the rare B-negative blood type.
