Solons: SC ruling affirms FDA power over tobacco industry | Butch Fernandez

AFTER appearing before the Supreme Court as intervenors, Senate Minority Leader Frank M. Drilon and Senator Lady Pilar Juliana “Pia” S. Cayetano were readily credited by anti-tobacco crusaders battling its poisoning effect on smokers.

‘“This is a major victory for our people and advocates for tobacco control and public health,” Cayetano said. She recalled a long struggle with pro-tobacco lobbyists. But the Senator asserted that the health hazards of tobacco cannot be denied and are backed by strong medical evidence.
