Cortez Dekelvin Ware, 37, of Birmingham, collapsed on the sidewalk just outside the front door the Elyton Meat Market, where he was pronounced dead at 2:16 p.m. Wednesday.

The two were involved in some kind of dispute on Tuesday. The nature of that dispute wasn’t immediately clear. Sgt. Monica Law said community members and information obtained through the department’s Real Time Crime Center quickly led police to the suspect. He was taken into custody at nearby Elyton Village public housing community.Ware is the city’s second homicide this year. The first homicide took place Monday night on the city’s east side.
