'It's a town alive to be honest, and a town alive is worth a drive'

It's known for its streets lined with independent shops, cafes, glitzy restaurants and celebrity-owned bars, many within listed historic buildings. And now the historic market town of Knutsford in Cheshire has been hailed among the best places to live in the UK in The Sunday Times' annual guide.

And there's plenty of showbiz sparkle in Knutsford these days too - with two celebrity-owned bars in the hospitality mix here. They took over the bar in November 2019 - just before "it all went crazy" with lockdown. But the couple were able to pivot their business and have praised how "helpful" everyone in the Knutsford community has been.

Shane told the MEN: "We were friendly outsiders coming into Cheshire but Knutsford has really looked after us. Myself, I'm an Irishman, my wife is from London, Nathan is from Brighton - we're nomads - we've travelled up here a long way and Cheshire has made us very, very welcome, everyone has made us so welcome.

For a small town, it also boasts a real range of independent shops to explore. It has become known in recent years as an interior design hub, with 10 shops dedicated to interiors to be found around the town. Further along King Street you'll find one of the town's quirkiest buildings which is now home to Morgan Edwards wine bar. It is based inside Knutsford's second oldest building, dating back to 1580 that had been the town barbers for 200 years.
