AL senator pushes bill to punish companies linked to labor violations, human trafficking - Child labor laws have not always been in place, and there was a time in history when child labor was preferred because factory owners saw them as more manageable, cheaper, and less likely to strike.

An Alabama state senator wants to make sure tax dollars don’t support companies that violate labor laws. Jefferson county senator Merika Coleman pre-filed a bill ahead of the 2025 legislative session that would force companies that received economic incentives from the state to pay them back if the company engaged in human trafficking violations or violated the fair labor standards act.

This would include third parties working for larger corporations, but there would have to be proof companies turned a blind eye.
