The owner of a ground floor Blackburn fast food business proposes to turn it into a 'healthy eating' hot food takeaway. Mrs. R. Bux has applied for planning permission to convert the premises at 216 Shear Brow - which had previously been operating as 16th Street burger bar - into ‘Pretty Peppers’. If approved the takeaway would offer a menu including salad bowls, burritos, quesadillas, tacos, crunch wraps, and Peruvian Lomos Soltados.
A supporting statement submitted with the application to Blackburn with Darwen Council says it was intended to 'serve the growing demand for healthy and nutritional food'. It said the change would ensure the business 'can continue to grow while providing healthier alternatives to traditional fast food'. It said the move was also aimed at 'ensuring the continued viability of the establishment'. The statement continued: 'The change of use is consistent with the policies of the Blackburn and Darwen Local Plan which encourage the growth and development of town centres and provides support for businesses that contribute to the economic vitality of these areas. The proposed change of use aligns with these policies by bringing a food offering that meets local demand while maintaining the vibrancy of the commercial area. “The business has seen a substantial rise in demand for healthier takeaway options. Pretty Peppers specialises in providing nutritious meals with a focus on fresh ingredients, balanced diets, and food that supports a healthy lifestyle. “Unlike traditional fast-food outlets, Pretty Peppers focuses on promoting healthy eating. The business will provide clear nutritional information to customers for all menu items, ensuring transparency and supporting informed dietary choices.' It said the menu would feature 'low-fat, low-sugar, and balanced meals designed to offer nutritious alternatives to standard takeaway offerings
