The Chairman of Eke Awka Market in Anambra State, Emeka Agummadu, popularly known as “Baby Awka” who was arrested by the police on Wednesday for alleged cult killings has regained his freedom.

Addressing journalists in Awka on Friday, Agummadu refuted reports alleging that he was a financier of cult activities in Awka and environs.The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed in a press statement on Wednesday had said that Agummadu and three others were arrested for alleged cult killings in the area.Mohammed said the Commissioner of Police in the state led the operation for Agummadu’s arrest.

But at the press briefing on Friday, the market leader described the allegation as false and unfounded, aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He called on the Police to investigate the matter with a viewing to ascertaining the correct situation.“The allegation is the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at tarnishing my image”.
