A Things Engraved location is seen here. The company's CEO sent employees a letter on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2020 informing them that they were fired immediately, citing financial difficulties. TORONTO -- The CEO of a Canadian retailer that suddenly terminated its entire workforce last week admits the company had been unprofitable for several years and simply couldn’t compete with online retailers like Amazon.
“We absolutely care and I think certainly value the service they’ve put in and their commitment to the business,” Brock said. Store managers were only given one day to contact customers with engraved items they hadn’t picked up yet, including pieces like an engagement ring and a memorial plate for a funeral.
Someday not so soon the Government will have to do something about the Amazoning of retail. What is the term anti competition laws.
What about high prices, running out of items and refusing to engrave things close to closing time event though it isnt busy?
Do they realize that they can sell on amazon?
Thanks for hanging in there for as long as you could, Things Engraved. RIP. You will be remembered fondly by those that appreciate the simpler times of days gone by. In memory of you and other great service retailers that passed before you, I do not buy stuff online. Amen.
Why ya blaming them? They never sent out disgraceful termination slips to good employees but you did, ignorant SOB
how does ANY Company compete with a Monster like this with sometimes same-day delivery?!!!
adapt bitch
Over priced items would be their demise. Can't believe they've lasted this long.
CowieKaunweigh Or high prices.
I'm not sure I've ever even seen anybody other than staff inside a Things Engraved store. Im amazed they survived this long!
Can’t charge the high prices that you do, needed to be more competitive in pricing!
