The aftermath of the accident which killed a man in Kuantan yesterday. The man was hit by a driver going against traffic, believed to have been driving under the influence.
He said stricter enforcement coupled with heavier punishments would serve as a deterrent and make drinkers think twice before breaching the law. Even for a first-timer, he said the punishment should be a RM100,000 fine, a two-year jail sentence or both, in order to make drinkers aware of the gravity of the crime.
It suggested that the Customs Department and local councils suspend the issuance of licences to sell alcohol and stop the sale of liquor at 24-hour convenience stores.
