. The military says it found residents were not being fed or bathed regularly in the home and that one resident alleged in a “disturbing” letter that they were being abused by a staff member.“Should these investors expect these big publicly traded companies to sacrifice profit for quality of care?” George-Cosh asked Ford. “You want to invest in a company? Make sure the company is run well … These homes, specifically the ones that Canadian Armed Forces [are] in, they failed.
He said shareholders should focus on holding their CEO and chair accountable for what has happened during the pandemic. Later in the press conference, another reporter asked Ford what the province can do to improve care in privately operated long-term care homes. “Number one, we can pull their licence. Then they won’t have to have a home to worry about,” he said.
“We’ll be holding people accountable. Because it’s not about money. It’s about taking care of people ... And if they want to be greedy and make money, then get out of the business. Go find something else to do. Don’t put people’s lives in jeopardy.”
Sounds like more socialism needed to save the day.
His campaign donors are NOT going to like that kind of talk.
fordnation if it wasn’t about money then why did you cut majority of the funding for LTC ? You are partly to blame for this also. Just like the last premiers that did nothing about it.
Too late
F*ck off with this puff piece. Garbage like this helps Doug Ford blame-shift and avoid responsibility. Two facts can’t be be overlooked; the OntarioPCParty cut funding to long term care homes and they virtually eliminated comprehensive, annual inspections well before COVID19.
Wonder if he told that to Mike Harris?
As we continue to shine light on the duplicitous actions and behaviour of many people re LTC homes, both in and out of government, seek out immediate resignations and, where appropriate, criminal charges. Remove people at all levels that are culpable. Fix it and fix it now!
It's Walkerton deja vu all over again. PCs + gov't of Ontario = death... for the people.
Needs to be said throughout Canada. For-profit homes often charge residents $5,000 to $10,000/ month and many are owned by real estate firms that see these operations as cash cows. They scrimp on wages, supplies and services to pay healthy dividends to investors.
His Minister of Health has taken almost $30k from those greedy investors.
'Greedy CONServatives' should get out of LTC !!!
Doggie should tell his friend Mike Harris that.
We need an external audit of all public and broader public sector organizations. I bet this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Nursing Home 'Business'? There lies the problem.
Fun fordnation your buddies in the conervative party are the biggest investors and people like Mike Harris the biggest beneficiary
Hypocrisy
Mike Harris
Greed has no place in the public domain, wether it’s education, health care, policing or fire. The profit motive overrides the best interests of the citizens every time.
