Altrincham-based Lookers will shut another 12 sites - either by closure, merging with other showrooms or refranchising - on top of the 15 dealerships being closed already under plans announced in November.
Lookers, which employs 8,000 people, resumed trading from all its sites on 1 June with social distancing measures in place. Last month, the 107-year-old company reported a deep first-quarter loss after sales dropped by almost a third due to the impact of the pandemic. Last month's new registrations of 20,247 units represented the weakest May since 1952. Sales were down 51.4% in the first five months of 2020 but the industry is hopeful that a re-opening of dealer showrooms in England this week will help to spur a recovery.
Old news it was well known in the Trade that they had a difficult 2019 had a large fraud investigation and were planning reductions in sites and staff Most is not Convid 19 related I wish the media would check things out.
Still nothing about the violent protests in London last night, no wonder people have lost complete faith with the BBC and media. ScumMedia mediascum
