LONDON: The BBC appointed an insider as its new director general on Friday, tasked with securing the future direction and financing of the publicly-funded British broadcaster in the wake of government scepticism of the current model.
"This has been a critical time for the UK and these past few months have shown just how much the BBC matters to people," Davie said. Davie, 53, will oversee a review of the BBC's funding in 2022 and negotiate the future of the licence fee when its charter is renewed in 2027.It had an income of more than 5 billion pounds in the 2019/20 year, with more than 3.5 billion pounds coming from the licence fee.
