The Back to Business toolkit represents a move by Barclays to help SMB clients through the next phase of the coronavirus crisis: recovery

. The free toolkit was designed in collaboration with the Cambridge Judge Business School and will be open to all UK SMBs, including Barclays' 1 million small- and medium-sized business customers.Business owners will have access to a working capital calculator, cash flow forecasts, and guidance on managing supply chain relationships, among other tools which they can use to assess the health of their companies and create a tailored resilience plan.

. Many UK banks have offered loans through government-backed programs like the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme and the Bounce Back Loan Scheme, both of which focus on helping businesses survive the initial effects of the pandemic — but Barclays' new program is aimed at helping businesses resume regular operations.

Other UK banks should follow in Barclays' footsteps and pivot toward recovery, especially if they missed opportunities to provide aid at the onset of the crisis. Adding business banking offerings that can help clients navigate the next phase of the coronavirus crisis is a timely move, and other banks could drive customer acquisition by offering similar toolkits of their own.

This is especially true for banks whose relief lending efforts may have gotten a late start — for example, Growth Lending and Triple Point were only accredited under the CBILS last week,
