PETALING JAYA: Those in the maritime industry including fisherman and shipowners have been warned that they can be charged under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act should they be found aiding undocumented immigrants enter the country.

They could also face other actions such as having their licences revoked, said a multi-agency task force, which includes the Armed Forces, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the police.

"Enforcement actions are not only focused at the waters of the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak, but also at all land borders. "Up until now, more than 300 local 'tekongs' and masterminds have been identified as being involved in the smuggling of illegal immigrants into the country. The task force added that it would continue enforcement work under Ops Benteng to prevent illegal landings.
