Neil Pentland pleads not guilty to the murder of his former Gold Coast business partner Philip Carlyle, who was found shot dead in the plant room of his Robina office in 1997.

A Gold Coast businessman found with four bullet holes to the head more than 20 years ago was killed in a "methodical execution", a Queensland court has heard.The court heard a doctor described Philip Carlyle's death as a "methodical execution"Philip Carlyle, 47, was found dead in an air-conditioning plant room inside his Robina office in April 1997.Mr Pentland, 72, pleaded not guilty to murder on the first day of his trial in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Monday.

Mr Meredith told the court Mr Carlyle and Mr Pentland had a "deteriorating partnership relationship" in the lead up to Mr Carlyle's death.The prosecution will allege Mr Pentland used a false name to threaten Mr Carlyle via email in relation to money he gave him. The court heard Mr Carlyle had a string of failed businesses, had previously been threatened by business associates and was in debt at the time of his death.
