Facebook and Instagram are creating teams to study bias on their platforms as they face increased pressure to address racial disparities

Facebook and Instagram are establishing internal teams dedicated to studying how their products might be disproportionately harming underrepresented groups, as first reported by"Any bias in our systems and policies runs counter to providing a platform for everyone to express themselves. While we're always working to create a more equitable experience, we are setting up additional efforts to continue this progress," Instagram's head of product Vishal Shah said in a statement.

"Facebook is working in tandem on similar priority efforts," including a group tasked with bringing more diverse voices into the product development process, she said. "It's early days and we plan to share more details on this work in the coming months." Otley told Business Insider that none of Facebook's apps collect race data and that Facebook's approval process was meant to ensure that such research is done responsibly and with respect for users' privacy.

when will Business Insider study bias in their 'articles'?🤔

Oooh, Facebook is 'studying' bias. LIke they've been 'studying' election interference, bullying, hate speech and white supremacist dog whistles for nearly a decade.

What...? How could these teams trust it? It’s data and information coming from Facebook.

Literally the most 'human-like' pic of the Zuck in existence

Look at this poor man's face. How much scrutiny and grilling he would face .

I'm wondering why they're just starting to do that

Just DeleteFacebook already

Reality check If there's bias, it reflects what's on minds of civilians living in various societies. Just a bit more vissible due/thanks to these platforms

looks like big tech is scared, their days are numbered... a racist counterculture is probably going to take power in the coming years and legislate against the corporations that suppressed their speech, tribunals are likely

Hahahaha So!

Lol, address their far left leaning bias

Difficult to imagine that companies whose entire business model is built on data - specifically marketing that data to marketers as allowing precise and measurable targeting - to pretend they don't see bias, probably in realtime.
