Google operates in 42 cities across Europe and is the best place to work in the UK, according to company review siteGetting a job at Google is notoriously difficult: around three million people apply for jobs at Google worldwide every year.
Keith Moran, former staffing leader for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at Google, told Business Insider it takes an average of eight weeks between your first contact with a Google recruiter and a job offer, but it can take longer than 12 weeks. Each candidate is screened by Google recruiters, their potential boss, and the wider team they will work within.
Moran, who led recruitment for all non-tech roles in Europe, said that applicants should be specific about their achievements, and should "actually outline your data and evidence." You might also be asked for "quite a few coffee chats thrown which are not technically interviews," Moran told Business Insider. "So whilst the formal process might not look different across levels and functions, informal shadowing can change quite a bit."to help you prepare — the key is to do your research on those interviewing you, make sure you know a lot about the role, and understand Google's values.
Google wants people that think big, Dickins said, "so if you can turn whatever you're talking about, or whatever concept you're thinking about into a large-scale distributed system, then that shows that your idea is a good one and that you know how to think in the right way for Google." If you build robots or make apps from scratch in your shed on weekends, don't be afraid to tell your interviewer. It will make you memorable.
Don't be afraid of showing your personality, but be humble. Modesty is a key value for Google, according to the experts we spoke to.Dado Ruvic/Reuters
