Durban – THE freight industry is under immense pressure as incidents of hijacking and burning of trucks are on the increase across the county, raising serious concerns about the future of the industry.
RFA chief executive Gavin Kelly said that they, together with the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry, have availed themselves on numerous occasions to solve the impasse. “The police should gather intelligence, identify those who incite violence, investigate and prosecute those who do. This needs to end now,” he said.According to the SAPS second-quarter crime statistics for 2020/21 released recently, truck hijacking from July 1 to the end of September this year have increased by 31.7%.
At the release of the crime statistics, Police Minister Bheki Cele said that truck hijackers were using sophisticated technology to carry out the crimes.Kelly described the numbers as being of concern, saying that for the umpteenth time, the road freight companies had found themselves being attacked.
Director and chief economist of Efficient Group, Dawie Roodt, said a lot of the freight shouldn’t be on the road, as railway was a better alternative. He said urgent interventions were required because the economy would suffer if goods didn’t reach their intended delivery destinations. “If there’s no guarantee for businesses that everything sent from point A will arrive at point B, that will chase away investors. Our image is being tarnished by this.
When the food prices go up, the same people burning trucks will then be out protesting sky rocketing food prices. So the system of stupidity keeps on churning!
We all know the reason for burning of trucks 🌚
If they do not hire locals, abashwe!

The government should not intervene because the freight industry knows the solution. We all know what is the problem.
Is there anything good in these people.....Any of them... All they are good for is to destroy, kill, rape....repeat....
Both parties are bitter, some of these Trucks are being burned by South Africans and some by foreigners. Both parties need to reach a common ground soon!!! These companies are also the problem.
😂😂which President🙄We don't have a President😏
Hire South African drivers
heard its about foreign nations being dominants in the industry
The industry must reform. Companies with 100% illegal workforce in a sea of poverty is unsustainable
Appealing on deaf ears unfortunately.
