"Given the events of the past week, we will expand our Sensitive Event policy enforcement to temporarily pause all political ads in addition to any ads referencing impeachment, the inauguration, or protests at the US Capitol," Google said in a statement to Insider. Both Google and Facebook implemented a political ad ban after the 2020 election and lifted it in early December ahead of the Georgia runoffs, which Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff have since won.Google will block all political ads as well as those related to the US Capitol siege starting on Thursday until at least January 21.The tech giant informed its advertising partners of the decision in an email, which a Google spokesperson shared with Insider.

Why not block political ads altogether? Why have them invade that space? If politicians want to get their point across, why not get out and actually TALK to people? Hold more town halls? Visit their constituents in their communities? Digital ads are lazy.
