The Harvard University sophomore said her poetry was inspired by a speech Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, who is only one year older than Gorman, gave in 2013. And yes, we are far from polished far from pristine, but that doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect. Let the globe, if nothing else say, this is true. That even as we grieved, we grew. That even as we hurt, we hoped. That even as we tired, we tried.
We've seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share, would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy, and this effort very nearly succeeded. But while democracy can be periodically delayed, it can never be permanently defeated. We will not march back to what was, but move to what shall be: a country that is bruised, but whole, benevolent, but bold, fierce, and free.
Wow! Just Wow!
Beautiful poem! Wonderfully delivered! 👏
The spin is on already. Everything will be now great. Just like that. No police brutality, no deportations, no kids left behind. COVID will be serious but we will be making great improvements, poverty will be serious as well but we will all care deeply about it...
TheAmandaGorman was amazing!
The only thing that was ‘stolen’ was the election.
thisisinsider Nothing, just looking for a hero out of nothing.
The poem was so eloquently delivered by Amanda! 👏😀👏😀👏 InaugurationDay
“stole the show” is an exaggeration. She just did well. Some of the Media are looking for a ‘highlight’ in a normal Inauguration Ceremony
