Some of that investment has come in the form of new hires: Just last year, Google Cloud hired at leastmany sourced from enterprise strongholds like Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP, with others coming from the likes of Amazon Web Services. Google Cloud also said it would double down on industry verticals like finance, retail, and healthcare, hiring sales specialists in those fields to close deals even without being able to meet in person.
Three employees say that these initiatives are bearing fruit, with Google Cloud growing quickly and hiring aggressively. In particular, two employees say the sales and solutions teams have grown rapidly, and one says it's become common to see frequent announcements about new hires. This also means that Google Cloud is pushing hard to establish itself as a major enterprise player, after years of lagging dominant players Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
