Pirates who kidnapped 15 sailors from a Turkish-crewed container ship in the Gulf of Guinea have made their first contact with the shipping company to discuss a ransom.
"Information has been obtained that all 15 crew members are in good health, not wounded and together," Anadolu Agency reported the shipping company Boden as saying on Thursday. The pirates contacted the Hamburg office for ransom, mentioning all the names of the crew and providing evidence that they were all well.
Earlier this week a cargo ship with a largely Turkish crew was attacked off Nigeria by armed men who killed one sailor and abducted 15 sailors. The M/V Mozart anchored off neighbouring Gabon on last Saturday, and the body of a slain Azerbaijani sailor was brought to shore, according to Turkish officials.
