Luke Sibieta, research fellow at the IFS, said:"The inescapable conclusion is that lost learning represents a gigantic long-term risk for future prosperity, the public finances, the future path of inequality and wellbeing.
"That doesn't mean we need to spend that much. But it does strongly suggest that the £1.5bn allocated across the UK so far doesn't even start to match the scale of the challenge. A much larger policy response would allow us to consider radical and properly resourced ways to help pupils catch up.
A government spokesperson said:"We will invest a further £300m in tutoring programmes, building on the existing £1bn COVID Catch Up Fund, but the prime minister was clear last week that extended schools closures have had a huge impact on pupils learning, which will take more than a year to make up.
They’re not closed!
Oh ....my..... god!!! These articles are getting to a nuclear level of uselessness!!!!
So you's wanting the goverment to pay out now or later . 🙄
Absolute Tosh. Havnt you got another scare story to go to👍
Rubbish
What jobs are there anymore?
What’s that... £75 a month worst case secenario? Not too much of a disaster really.
What an absolute load of garbage ...this quote is from someone with far too much time on their hands who can obviously see in to the future ....I should use your time and psychic power some other way and not bore us with this headline crap
Where do I claim
Think businesses closed probably will argue they have more to lose, tbf..
Then maybe don't cripple them with massive student debt when they get older?
Me not messaging Michelle Keegan could cost me a shag with her 🤷🏻♂️
Let’s see some workings for that then 😂 whose taking up the slack the other kids that couldn’t go to school
What a load of nonsense!
There's speculation and there's speculation. ....
This is absolutely stupid. Who figured this out? Diane Abbott ?
Why. They are all at the same level so it’s down to the individual to make a success
hahahahaha... And, In other made up news this morning, We make up some more numbers... What a load of crap.
It could or it could not. This isn't news. News is what is happening not making up what may happen. My kids have only been off school for a term and a half since the start of the pandemic. During this time they've had home schooling. I'm sure kids will be fine in the long run.
Could
Oh give it a rest!
Is this really Journalism? How you can even come up with a £40,000 figure is beyond me. The reason why the children are “missing” school is due to a deadly pandemic. How much money have the 105,000 people lost? It’s pathetic what some of you pass off as news
Schools needs to be fully open ASAP! Appreciate the work that teachers continue to do to provide online learning for those at home but it’s just not even close to being the same!
Unpaid parents looking after the children. Oh wait it’s what a parent does
“Could” these news outlets are pushing their own agenda
School closures MIGHT aid a child to earn £40k more in a lifetime.... cut the negatives ffs
Media stirring again but a least the children will be alive and saving lives too
I’m more concerned with people who are currently having their livelihood’s ruined by this
We should feel a collective shame as a society - children have suffered so the old, unhealthy, smokers and ex-smokers, obese diabetics who had their education, lived their lives (often badly) can survive. Now payback has to happen. Give back to kids.
😂😂 another stupid pointless headline
Could save that by not going to university
Close the schools. Open the schools. Close the schools open the schools. People are never happy. Oh and by the way. The schools never closed !!!
'Could', sensationalist journalism.
Grand a year? Money over keeping their parents and grandparents for longer?
Welcome to the world of 1950s women! We lost £45000 stolen by government ! All our lives we were discriminated against paid less than men and lost promotion if we had children unpaid carers noone cared about us we couldn’t afford uni but your own home holidays cars etc
SKY stop the crocodile tears you have been part of the problem from the beginning spreading and ramping up the fears.
I don’t understand why they don’t have children take a gap year and repeat their last year of education, after all student do it.
dont know abt others, if im a kid and dont have to go to school, id be thrilled
Send them to school on the 6 week hoilday that should help
My tuition fees cost £40k. There’s a solution to both
Oh shut up!!!
The government need to invest in education for all especially the sate and not just their own children in the private sector
Come on. This is no way to look at it. I would think a child’s safety and health is far more important than just numerical projections.
Poppycock. You have no evidence to support this because a scenario with schooling disruptions on this scale has never happened before. You are unnecessarily upsetting people with garbage headlines based on pseudo data analysis on a situation that is changing every single week.
Nonsense
Sensationalism still alive and well at Sky News I see 🙄
Lol. How on earth is this figure reached? It could cost them hundreds of thousands. It could cost them nothing. Pathetic. Guesswork. Sky News
And yet it was OK to increase tuition fees so that the average undergrad pays £30k, and leaves over £50k in debt. In addition, salaries have stagnated since 2006. How much did that cost?
What is money if you don't have your health!
Great crystal ball stuff there Sky. A 'news' story about a vague projection decades into the future? Get a grip, seriously.
What a pile of fucking nonsense. Honestly this bullshit needs to stop
I COULD ALSO grow a 3rd nipple.. these headlines are so bad.
Only if it's allowed to....
Could or could not. What a stupid headline.
Absolute none sense. Who comes up with these random numbers?
