After 10 years as the Group Managing Director of Continental Reinsurance Plc, Dr Femi Oyetunji’s, will soon retire from the company. In this interview with NIKE POPOOLA, he speaks on some developments in the company and the need to boost reinsurance capacity in Africawas your main challenge when you joined Continental Reinsurance as the group managing director 10 years ago?
The most difficult situation is changing people’s minds and behaviour; so, that was very challenging. So after 10 years, not only have we succeeded in being a pan African, well respected brand, we have also internalised the philosophy of being pan African. We have been able to transform it from Nigerian brand to a well-respected pan African brand.
As you are aware, part of our restructuring is to be restructured into Mauritius. One question I keep getting all the time is you are taking Continental Re from Nigeria to Mauritius. This beautiful edifice confirms that, that was never the intention. Here, it showed Continental Re’s commitment to the Nigerian economy, the Nigerian insurance industry to the people of Nigeria.
