Employees are closest to the front lines. They are generally more attuned to the customer experience than the 10 people who developed the customer strategy behind closed doors. So, why not involve employees in the crafting of the strategic plan? They know which products are likely to succeed and which are failing miserably.
Communication around strategy is a two-way street. Information about the strategy flows down the organizational chart, and information flows from the bottom to the top concerning the implementation of the strategy. In both cases, one-third of that information is missing each way. That’s a lot of room for miscommunication, error or bad information.
Most companies conduct some form of employee engagement survey. Surveys are excellent ways to measure the overall employee experience; they are also great instruments for understanding whether employees understand, support and are able to effectively execute on the company’s strategy.
