Among the reasons employers cite for the hiring crunch are problems with assessing potential employees’ skills and more competition in the job market. Companies also say they’re running up against a skills gap with people lacking experience and both hard and soft skills. And some firms say no one is applying at all.Article content
To attract applicants, some employers have resorted to offering higher pay. But it’s not having the effect they hoped and turnover remains high. To add to that, companies say many workers just don’t have the skills they need to actually do the job. And they are pointing the finger at government benefits for keeping people who do have needed skills sitting out of the workforce.

Yet, I can't get an interview. I wish I was capable of waitressing or something similar, but trust me, nobody wants me balancing food and drink on a tray. Klutz. I've got lots of exec/admin asst experience, also graphic design. No degree, not fluently bilingual. Impossible.
It is a wage shortage
There is NO labour shortage in Canada. There is a shortage of wages attracting the labour to work the jobs! Living costs have gone through the roof and employers think that $15/hr is enough to live in the GTHA. Good luck!

As you said Labor jobs. High paying and Professional jobs don’t exist at these days.

Untrue that EI is preventing folks from returning to work. In USA in all states that cut special benefits the uptick in employment was only slightly more than 1%
Canada like many countries if facing a high cost of living related to transportation, housing, and food. Average incomes need to be above $60K (Single) & +$120K (Family) to meet daily household expenses. 2021 election discuss little on issues with jobs!
Because everyone is making more money collecting CERB!! Why work?
