An electrical engineering company’s owner who is at loggerheads with the Special Investigating Unit over the cancellation of his R326 million contract in Limpopo has challenged Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke to review the clean audit she granted the unit.
Mphaphuli Consulting Engineers’ owner Lufuno Mphaphuli informed Maluleke in a letter dated January 9 that the 2020/21 audit report of the SIU had had “material omissions or misstatements”. The SIU began focusing on the company following clashes it had had with the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality in Burgersfort since 2016. The clashes emanated from the municipality’s decision to cut payments due to the company for electrification of 20 000 rural households.Support independent journalism
