SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A new bill in California could have people saying"Thank God it's Thursday."
The bill, AB 2932, is moving through the state legislature and would change the definition of a workweek from the 40 hours to 32 hours for companies with more than 500 employees. A full work day would remain at 8 hours. The bill would require overtime pay for employees work longer than four full days a week. According to Congressman Mark Takano this would amount to a 10% increase in pay for employees.
Some employers who have already tested out a four day workweek say it has led to an increase in productivity and profits. Other employers say it has led to more stressed out employees who feel like they are letting their teammates down by not supporting them more.and studies showed it was an"overwhelming success.
According to studies, the U.S. ranks among the top countries in hours worked per year. Americans also spend less time than people from other developed countries on personal care and leisure.
With the advent of AI’s and robots this is going to happen anyway it can’t be stopped! No one no one will have a job in the future. They talked about this in the 70s! I always laugh when people say not my job those people are not living in reality!!!
I have worked a 36 hour work week for the last 5 years and I love it! I’m still a full time employee and get my full benefits and get paid for the hours I put in.
oh boy. companies in California can't find full time employees and these Democrats are out with this new bill. What do you think will happen if this bill passes? Will more companies leave California?
Democrats of California : what have we not thought of yet to make sure more businesses leave this state?
What is wrong with California?
'Proposed California bill would change workweek to 32 hours for companies with over 500 employees' How will CA pay for tax/rate hikes, higher inflation/insurance hikes houselessness/mass exodus of larger cities, or M+ in sanctuary cities? Cali💩storm
Why woukd you want to reduce the hours of production in a High Inflation and Extremely High Gas price and everything else that has and is going up in price? They are trying to keep the poor even poorer!
So how many people would lose full time jobs with healthcare and be transitioned to part time jobs?
People are struggling now with prices so high for everything and you want to take money from people? This is communism you want people to rely on the government 🤬🤬 wake up America 🇺🇸
CA just destroying its prosperity it built in the last 50-60 years. Amazing to watch.
Another reason to move your company out of CA
I don’t understand how this is even possible because their bills will not be paid
It is a union written bill that only applies to large non union employers. Pure extortion - pay union dues or you can't work more than 32 hours a week. They are trying to unionize Amazon.
Anything over 8 hrs is O.T regsrdless after 10 hrs its D.O.T
This is not right that is why I don't believe in the system any longer
Commies corrode. They always have.
Unless they get full 40 ours, this bill is t going to pass. It’s too expensive to live in LA with only 32 hours pay
This does not guarantee an employer would hire you full time. This means an employer would more than likely make you part time. They would hire more people creating more part time jobs to fill the remaining 40 hours. As it is, most places are short staffed so what’s the point?
Look for more businesses to leave California. This essentially has the state madamsarinf raisea now
Guys, that gives you an extra free day to work a 2nd or 3rd part time job to make ends meet so you can to stay in California. Joy!
I can barely work less than 45 hours a week. No way in hell i can work 32. More money for me OR no job since i am the only CA based employee on the team.
Who's going to support all the people coming over the border into California? Like we don't have enough people that need help. 🙄
Really, WTF is wrong with these peoples in Sacramento? Are they all on freaking drugs?
Could that lead to a migration away from small business? Are we trying to stamp out the little guy?
Nutz
Did you ever think 💭 this mostly affects the state “employees”? Good for them - bad for non math 🧮 doing liberals that pay 💰 their wages
Reveal the liars who said: Other employers say it has led to more stressed out employees who feel like they are letting their teammates down by not supporting them more.
So this would happen, companies would potentially have over 500 part time employees to avoid this bill. Even possibly cut pay wages
How about I work as much as I want.
I know nothing about trees but we work with all kinds of services and cut the man down for goodness sakes
But couldn’t the employer lower the hourly wage to make up for the lost day?
Democrats: Blah blah blah and no action! Where is $400 for the gas ⛽️ Where is universal medicare for the state? All talk, thats all!
Yay
so pay them 32 hours, seems like a pay cut, hire more 32 hour employees to fill in missing days, this is over regulation and bad for all!
Sounds good if the pay will be the same , 40 hours, and the fifth day will be overtime, in case you need to work one more day, people will rest more and comeback more happy
👊🏼
Anything they do to increase costs for employers will result in more inflation.
But will they lose their pay
More job cuts will come from this. Another raise for less productivity. I’m all for it. But you’ll see that happen.
*public Accounting laughs in unpaid overtime*
Does this include government employees like fire, police, etc. And what about large hospital complexes for example UCLA medical? If I'm Google or Apple I'm headed for Texas and Musk.
Meanwhile all the people working at small businesses dryly say Sure Happy It's Thursday.
Would one get overtime for hours over 32?
I wonder who they gonna milk to pay for their socialism when Atlas gonna shrug?
Yay. Another law that will never be enforced.
😂😂 the truth definition of being cheap with your company 💀🥸
And California expects us to buy electric vehicles on a 32 hours a week? They'd better pay us $150 an hour then.
Earthcitizen8 krakenfx to get beat up less
Companies will either move to another state or worse offshore jobs. Those that cannot will layoff current employees and then hire new employees at the old rate.
Do it!
Watching ALL large corporations IMMEDIATELY exit California.
So I would love to work 15 hours only due to health but the 34 hour proposal I just worked 60 70
This is the dumbest bill
So companies will simply cut everybody's hours to avoid overtime pay? This is ill advised and I wouldn't want a pay cut specially in California right now
I love this! Hope it passes 🙏
The change from 40 hrs/wk to 32 hrs/wk won't be significant given that the number of CA companies with 500+ employees is relatively small.
Watch out Disneyland
thats discrimination
If you look into the bill, you still get paid for 40 hours worth of work, not 32. Pay will not be reduced
And people wonder why there is big business exodus from Commiefonia?
This would reduce income by 20% and make people get second jobs. Just brilliant.
The opitumy of stupid.
Another form of lock down just like the Expensive Gas Prices
Propose california would consider that they are actually housing Mexican slaves last year I made $00.40 cents per hour after calculating my bills no tax return allows 0 credits broke and homeless a** f*** CENTRALINTELL17 LACity
Are people still going to get paid for 40 hours? Of course not. People are struggling to survive on what they bring home now. So now bring home less? homeless
There is nothing wrong with a 40 hour work week, changing it is regressive!
Perfect. The ones who aren’t afraid to work will get the higher paying jobs.
With the outrageous cost of living, can people even afford it? or do they plan on raising their salaries?
I’d rather come in 4 days a week and work 10 hour work days instead of only working/being paid for 32 hours.
Do politicians want all businesses to leave Cali?
Lame
It’s the under 500 family businesses that are sole crushingly killing Americans with the 40+Hour weeks
good, not stop rental price gouging
Hope they reduce the salary
Maybe I WON'T retire now. 4 day work week. But honestly we have a small satellite office in the valley, hq in another state. Wonder if they’ll finally close it as we’ve had rumors b4. Severance pkgs?
What a joke
I'm down for this
Would that mean if you work 40 hours a week, the 8 hours = overtime?
Yes please
No work no pay DemocratThugs 🌊🌊
Me looking up how many people work at my company
LosAngelesToday Haha, the lazy fornians, get lazier. Reminds me of Russia, where everyone is blitzed on vodka!
CA is determined to destroy companies! Ask who will be exempt? Will airlines? Will medical? CA is Jimmy Hoffa! Destroying, so much fraud, and those that give generously to the democrat party will be exempt!
This is how to make poor people.
First responders and healthcare workers are really gonna be making some good overtime…
Good way to drive out large employers
Twitter shouldn't let you comment without at least reading the article first. Some of these comments 😭
LOTS of comments about people wanting FREE time and not wanting to work. FACT IS if you don't build up a 401K or start a retirement account then at age 55 you won't retire and will work until 80. if you don't get in the HOURS you won't get social security it is your LIFE
first the pushed the 15$ an hour now they want a company to give a FREE day of pay for a day less of work? THIS will result in 20% of the employees being fired, or closing down a business or leaving the state. this will NEVER pass
javie6r they’re trying so hard to make us stay, what a joke huh
As it’s been pointed out, people struggle to make ends meet with working 40 hours, Employers will have to adjust time paid to 32 hours a week. “Proposed” Bill, just another example of “busy work “ wasting our tax dollars.
8 hours of pay is a lot to some people. They would be losing an entire day of pay. Over 1 year they would lose 52 days of pay. I don't know who would ever be comfortable with that. I once worked for a company who did 4/10 hour days. How will this affect the 3/12 people?
I so wish!
Hahaha AMAZING any idiot throwing any 2 cents into this AGAINST working less hours. Why we are stupid as a country theworkingmanisasucker
Yes, please. Would love to spend more time with my kids than my coworkers....
32? Gezus! Millennials and Snowflakes want a work week around their climate changing evolution. Start at 11:00 am! Break at 12:00: lunch Start at 14:00: End 15:00 This is the answer to cooling the earth!
California ..that is a bit if an overreach don’t you think ?
The California Legislators are losing their minds. First, they insist on forcing us to accept Transgenderism(made made bs), abortion, low school and moral standards and now they want to reduce working hours to 32? This is ridiculous and pathetic.
40% of this state is living in an alternate STATE of reality. These people need an explanation of what a 'Ponsi Scheme' is, especially one run by CA. Eventually, all Ponsi Scheme's fall flat on their rear ends and take 100% of everybody with them!
Many of these comments show how some should work 4 days a week and attend college courses, like reading comprehension and economics.
Stupid. What about the small companies where the average employee is working 12-15 hour days? I do 32 hours by noon Wednesday. What does it matter if you have more than 500 employees? Are they more special?
No thanks. I prefer my 40 hrs…
Yes please!!!!
Are they trying to get more companies to leave?
Crazy
That’s okay after 32 hours will be over time pay which the employer most likely have its employees work same hours to avoid hiring . Now tax revenues will be higher because of over time pay. I see layoffs for companies over 500. Sucks
Like my immigrant grandfather used to say: God Bless America!
Look for another mass exodus of large California businesses
For those who just think they’d love working less for same salary, don’t be fooled- as the old saying goes,”There’s no free lunch on Wall Street.” You’ll be paying more tax to make up for less state revenue, our CA economy will suffer as Will biz struggling from Covid shut downs.
What about companies with 32 employees?
OMG what is next!? There is no people to work, those who have a 40hrs job can't cover minimum necessities... It should be raised to 50 not lowered! Then the state is coming into every company and baby sit for the workers, wtf1
Omg. My hrs are cut already. How are we supposed to pay our bills We all need like 2 or even 3 jobs. Is that a life Just work work work. 😫
And that lowers a paycheck by 8 hours of pay.... How many can afford that?
This will go the same route as the ca bill that wanted mandatory diversity on business boards, govt can’t tell a business how to operate. Lets see if govt workplaces incorporate it
So, at $15 per hour, you'll be paying 625 employees $25k per year, instead of 500 employees $31k per year. Great🙄
Less traffic on the freeway 🙏
A lot of people in this thread seem to love being tied down to your mandatory 40 hours, well guess what? You can still work them and get overtime if you do and if not you will get paid for 40 hours of work regardless when working 32 hours
Trying to distract people from inflation 🙄
Wow this would change the entire dynamic of the economy... Dont think they realize the domino affect this would have...
Please god yea please.
This will only increase the cost to hire employees. If the company is a 24/7 business they will have to hire more employees to keep the 24/7 business. This is a added expense. More democrat caused inflation. And will lower incomes. Cut pay to hire more
I think owners of the company should make that call not the State or Federal goverment. Government wants control of eveything...
ok. 8 hours to a part timer. labor saver…..👍
“Let’s fight inflation with more inflation.” - California
It’s real simple if it’s a bill it needs to pass so that depends on all your votes you deal with it the best way you think if it’s on the ballot vote your vote
So how does that work for people more pay per hour to recoup the lost of 8 hours or longer 10 hour days?
Well seems like no more overtime. Stop raising the prices on everything so we can all survive.
They are just trying to get back at Amazon and Google and Apple, it wont affect 95% of people
Want an exodus of businesses from your state? This is how you get it done. ✅
on paper only.
Do people not get how this works? You're not losing pay! Employers would take your 40 hour paycheck and divide it into 32 hours. You'd make more per hour, so when you work 32 hours, you'd still get your current 40 hour total. If you work over 32, it'd be time and a half.
Except smaller companies and family owned often take more advantage of workers
Yay 🥹🥹
This is AMAZING!! I refuse to work more than 35 hours per week, I’m single and have no kids, I DONT NEED ALL THEM HOURS. I need my free time more!!
Where do we sign?
What a joke..
Stop. Not a good idea.
Does it apply to teachers
Think about it California is doing this so you can have 2 jobs… 1 job work 4 days, 2nd jobs you can work 3 days part time…
Globally overall employees number or just CA 😂
it doesn’t surprise me that people don’t actually READ the article
More artificial intelligence and technology so human beings can become unemployed and do more drugs/alcohol while sitting next to a freeway in their tent/card board homes.
I need that
California only wants the Uber rich and illegals so they can clean their mansions. Reality check people. CCP. California Communist Party
I will mention to my shop stewards that our 5th day is all OT and if they need us for 6 days all double time
“Lawmakers” pushing more companies out of the state.
And how are we supposed to pay bills? Scary & exciting all at once!!!
Everyone is all excited about ' derp! yOu GeT pAiD 40 hOuRs FoR wOrKiNg 32!!'. Ok, that's not the point. The point is large companies don't have to put up with this shit and just LEAVE, leading to a spike in unemployment. It's a fucking dumb idea.
And companies will have a counter proposal. Which would include relocating to Texas.
Race ya to the bottom!
Human laziness under Democrats continues to roll on
If you’re salary it doesn’t matter this bill won’t benefit you cause you still get paid the same whether you work 20 or 55 hours
Great. 20% fewer worker hours. That means if you want to go out to dinner, 20% fewer waitresses and waiters, if you are going to the grocery store, 20% fewer checkout. If you want to buy a car, 20% fewer factory workers, or, if they can find more workers or 20% higher labor costs
This raises a lot of questions. Here are a few more details.
So employees can’t get by on 50 hrs pay. How they going to do it on 32?
PEOPLE… you work less hours (32hours) for the same pay that you would’ve gotten at 40 hours. This is a good thing! This is better for your well being. Sucks if your job has less than 500 employees though.
How are they gonna pay rent? Wtf
Great way to chase even more companies away from California! Think about how many people would lose jobs and benefits.
😀 great 👍🏿 I like it
Just read the bill, 'The bill would require the compensation rate of pay at 32 hours to reflect the previous compensation rate of pay at 40 hours ' Dont know if it means Salary employees are safe but hourly are screwed?
Getting paid for 40hrs?
This won’t work for everyone especially those in production plants thst run 24/7.
Some people think they will somehow make more money. Wrong. Your employer will just say it is time to move to Texas or Florida.
Insane how California is literally driving companies out of state. Ca residents you will have NO jobs to work for and no state funded money because there will be no taxes to pay from…
