Zoleka QodasheMinister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa says whilst there are challenges faced by South Africans, Government has made strides in cementing the country’s democracy.
Mthethwa was speaking in Middleburg, Mpumalanga, ahead of the official commemoration of Freedom Day where President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the keynote address on Wednesday.Mthethwa says key among the gains of government is the prioritisation of education. “This government has put so much and has made education to be the apex priority of the government. the financial support this government put in there is one of which we are saying if we are to develop and prosper as a society, we’ve got to look into the question of education and ensure that our youth are able to be independent citizens.”
The Minister explains that “This national day honours the masses of South Africans who faced repression by security forces, death, injury, forced removals, discrimination and other injustices under the apartheid regime, especially those who fought for our freedom.”
