“Alternative proteins have received only a fraction of the investment deployed in other sectors,” the BCG report said. “Buildings have received 4.4 times more mitigation capital than food production, even though building emissions are 57% lower than those tied to food production.” Switching from conventional meat to alternatives is also much less disruptive to consumers than flying less or retrofitting their homes, the report said.
Bjoern Witte, at Blue Horizon, said: “The products consumers are seeing on the shelves today will be followed by a wave of cleaner, healthier and tastier alternative proteins, as technology allows for increasing innovation. We’re just at the beginning, really.” “[Alternative proteins] are a potentially large climate solution,” Foley said. “But it shouldn’t be seen as a stand-alone solution and could be combined with many others, including cutting food waste overall, shifting to more plant-rich diets, and farming the meat and dairy products we still might eat better.”
Meat
Highly processed vegan meat alternatives must be better than whole foods....yeah ok 😂🤡
When I invest , I do so to get a return. When I eat, my return is flavour. Besides a big Aussie Shiraz goes perfectly with meat!
Just eat real plants and avoid the energy burned by producing this absolute garbage!
I am always skeptical of these self promoted articles, some time you have to do a little digging. The Author of this report is also Vice Chairman for the Danish Plant-Based Business Association a lobby group.
Nice products , but I need them to be Gluten Free (GF). Quorn has only one product that's GF. crocodile for NAIDOC though.
Shuff your shit.
That's a bang for buck calculation, not necessarily targeting the biggest emitters. Never forget that the energy sector is where we have the most work to do, regardless of the cost effectiveness.
Has Boston Consulting Group got some kind of stake in a plant based meat business? Covering which 'green' businesses will produce the most money is not reporting.
I like the Quorn brand if anyone is interested 😁
Reading this headline sapped my will to live.
Green cement, 'zero emission' cars and 'green' buildings are not the biggest causes of man-made climate change! They're merely a distraction. Burning million-year-old dirt to make literally everything, including those aforementioned products - that's the problem. Meat is not.
Plant based food, NOT MEAT!!
That's bullshit. It would only be tackling a fraction of agriculture's 13% of the emissions problem. RenewableEnergy is the best -- investment -- in 'tackling' the climate issue. Source: National Inventory Report 2020. Dept of Industry, Science, Energy & Resources.
least of the problem. Transport pollution is the greatest problem.
What’s not to like: sustainable, ethical, cruelty free, tastes delicious, affordable, easy to use.
Or just eat the plants, if you can't stomach meat.
Every carnivore just unsubscribed from the Guardian lol.
