Famed Halifax floral designer Neville MacKay will be presenting love through the beauty of flowers at the Shelburne Guild Hall Market discovery tent on July 31. KATHY JOHNSONSHELBURNE, N.S. —
"There are things that we do to make a living and that’s all well and good, but this is a treat to go home and see people I’ve known for a lot of years that want to come and watch me do floral design and tell my stories,” MacKay says. It was in Shelburne County as a child that MacKay’s love of flowers first blossomed, even before he had started school.
He also learned about how important flowers were in expressing love through his father who was very much a woodsman. “One time stopped the truck and told me he wanted me to see something. He said, 'You need to see this lady slipper.' A tree had fallen down in the winter and the flower had grown sideways and around it all wonky," he remembers.
