Let's hear it for the 40 Under 40 class of 2022! The Business Journal celebrated the latest honorees at this annual program, along with a toast to recent alumni, at a special event Thursday evening.
All but a handful of 2022's honorees turned out to receive their award — a bottle of wine from Joseph George Wines, etched with each honoree's name — and say a few words about what they hoped to be remembered for when they turned 80. The event was one of the first to be held at the Unzipped Pavilion, a unique sculpture and temporary outdoor event venue on South First Street across from the California Theater. The pavilion is a three-story tent-like structure that was designed by noted Danish architect Bjarke Ingels in 2016 and was first displayed in London. It has since had a showing in Toronto and is now in San Jose for its first U.S. appearance.
The Canadian real estate firm Westbank along with their partners Gary Dillabough and Jeff Arrillaga, the co-founders of the development firm Urban Community, have placed the Unzipped Pavilion in a parking lot where they intend to build one of several new residential, office and mixed-use projects in downtown San Jose.
