A woman who rented a car in Toronto was charged $8,000 after the company claimed she drove nearly the distance of the earth's circumference in three days.

She said she drove the GMC Yukon Denali between the airport, downtown Toronto, and to Kitchener, where she visited with her parents.

"That's when I notice this charge for over $8,000 from Avis," Boniface told CTV News Toronto on Thursday. "The first thing I wanted to do was actually go back through security and just walk to the counter," she said."But I wouldn’t have had time to do that because the security lines were really long."A GMC Yukon Denali is seen in this undated file photo.

"They didn't seem to really get what my issue was and I really needed them to remove this $8,000 charge," she said.

This happens all the time. Companies don't take care of customers until the media gets hold of story and then company gets bad publicity costing them money.

'rental company makes mistake. Rental company fixes mistake.' Great article.

Liberal maths.

Happy it got resolved with the help of CTV News!

Clearly this woman hooked up jet engines to the car, used caffeine pills to drive for 72 hrs straight and paid $1700 to drive on the ETR so she wouldn’t have to break!

Is that humanely possible?

How is that possible? Driving at 500kmph for continuous 24 hours a day. Maybe the rental company didn't do the math before slamming the allegations

The Yukon is electronically limited to 160km/h, so that is one impressive feat.

Is it even possible to drive that far in 3 days? Leaving Toronto and travelling in any direction will put you in water way before 10,000 km and turning around still won’t get you even close to 36,000 kn even if you did that 3 days in a row. Sounds fishy!!!!

SeanDavidson_ The question is this news is , why officials profile news are posting fake news ? I saw the same news difference face around 6 times already . You need to drive/speed at 500KM /H which is something impossible. SeanDavidson_ you are a joke !!

once i rented a car and gave it back, they did the whole cleaning check up, signed the papers, got my card back, closed the file,, then once i walked out the worker said the car smelt like smoke? and sent me a bill home tried to charge my card $800? like no.

She thought she can abuse a rented car & get away with it… If it were her car, she’d use it responsibly…. Enjoy paying that :)

This is what happens when everything is automated and left up to computers.

She would have had to drive 500kms/h for 3 days straight to add that much mileage. How would their system not catch that…

Easy

Obviously the clerk at the rental counter has a liberal arts degree.

Seems like for very small issue the media has to intervene to get proper attention!

I used to travel a heck of a lot for business, you never ever rent from companies who charge per kilometer. On a trip to Germany I had a Mercedes from Hertz brand new it only had a 6 km on it. returned it with over 8,000 km no extra charge. The Audubon was fun!

At least she has a strong nose!

is this an ad for GMC Yukon Denali?

well.... a little math folks 24hrs X 3 = 72hrs 36,000km / 72hrs = 500km hr Umm .. I call bullshit

It means she drove 500/kmph for 72hrs (3 days) continuously.

That was a hell of a trip!!

Very stressful for sure!

😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

She must have said something negative about JustinTrudeau.

Impossible…

This had to be an auto generated bill..no way this went thru a real person who thought it was a good idea to send it out

Can anyone do the math? Absolutely impossible unless she rented a Boeing 767. And if she did, she won’t pay for the rental because she owes over 100,000 in jet fuel. did JustinTrudeau tell you us Canadians are stupid?

If she drove 100kmh 24 hours a day for 15 days she could drive 36,000. Obviously longer if she stops for gas and oil changes. 🤣

Must be one of those cars on F9 that went to space. Lmfao

someone put in the wrong mileage ... 72 hours 100 k / hr = 7200

Cue the Conservative outrage. This has to be Trudeau's fault. You know, justinflation, or some other purile comment from the Cons. Come on Pee Pee, Candy, Ana. One of you must have some snoty, unrelated comment to make.

Please investigate the relationship between this lady and Mr. Musk.

Cool! You need to drive the circumfrance of planet earth 3X around to hit that number. That's a lot of driving!!!

You would think someone at Avis with an I.Q. over 50 might simply step up to the plate and fix this obvious mistake. What the hell kind of a society have we become? By the way, I'll never rent from Avis from here on in.

Customer service has gone way downhill. My last experiences with shaw and Ticketmaster were basically the same as this car rental company. Good luck finding anyone who can help.

Definitely not an EV then.

Hey there Avis 36,482 kms at 25 cents a km comes out to $9,120.50 not $8,000.00 If you are going to overcharge your customers (even in error) be sure to get the math right. And CTVNews, your headline says 'charged $8,000 and the article says 'charged over $8,000'

Not possible.

24 hours x 3 days =72 hours and at best 130km an hour would be 9360km. Impossible

Why is she smiling,?if I did 12000 k a day my eyes would be bloodshot ,or completely shut.

Its possible

How is this newsworthy?

That is impossible to drive that amount in three days.

why is this a story?

She love to show off

The speed she must have been going... 🤣

is now the official place for people to whine too for non newsworthy life episodes

'...she would have had to drive for 72 hours straight at approximately 500 km/h for this to be possible...' Cast her on the next Fast and the Furious 😆

Does rental companies still offer the unlimited mileage within Ontario?

Real headline… People Make Mistakes and Sometimes Customer Service Sucks

PLEASE PLEASE MODEL MODEL

Title misleading just so we click on a pointless article…yay.

Did she rent a car or a space shuttle?

Assuming she divided the distance into three equal days. And only drove for 16 hours per day... 36,000/3=12,000 12,000/16=750 750KM/HR!! Totally possible if she rented a rocket.

malkster45 remember that time you were accused of stealing the rental car we returned on time?

So the lesson from this incident is DO NOT rent from Avis !

Circumference would imply that it's round 🤣🤣

I have to wonder where on the earth she bought her gas from Lol

GPS was way off......😏

🤣🤣🤣
